Lone Peak

In a stunning turn of events, Lone Peak (Highland, Utah) upset No. 6 Corner Canyon (Draper, Utah) with a final score of 28-21. The Knights established a commanding 28-7 lead by halftime and managed to fend off a late surge from the Chargers. Despite a late-game touchdown from Helamen Casuga to Chryshaun Lee, bringing the Chargers within 28-21 with just over three minutes left, Lone Peak’s defense held strong. A sack on Casuga at midfield as time expired secured the victory for the Knights.

In another dramatic finish, Blanche Ely (Pompano Beach, Fla.) edged out No. 11 Chaminade-Madonna (Hollywood, Fla.) 35-34 in overtime. Chaminade-Madonna, which had previously faced No. 3 St. John Bosco (Bellflower, Calif.), fell to 0-2 with this defeat. After a blocked field goal attempt at the end of regulation, junior quarterback Omari McNeal scored the decisive touchdown in overtime for Blanche Ely. Despite a blocked PAT, the Tigers managed to secure the win.

The upsets continued as No. 16 Centennial (Corona, Calif.) and No. 23 Folsom (Calif.) both fell in their games. Santa Margarita (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) defeated Centennial 31-15, with standout performances from four-star junior wide receiver Trent Mosley, who recorded nine catches for 217 yards and three touchdowns.

Meanwhile, Serra (San Mateo, Calif.) overcame a 21-14 deficit against Folsom to win 22-21. The Padres scored a late touchdown and then a game-winning 38-yard field goal from Brody Smith after recovering an onside kick.

Despite a 90-yard touchdown from Bergen Catholic’s Quincy Porter in the second half, IMG Academy’s Ty Hawkins led the charge with three rushing touchdowns and a key passing score.

IMG Academy’s win avoids what would have been their first 0-2 start in program history. They will face No. 13 Cocoa (Fla.) on September 6 after Cocoa’s dominant 51-0 victory over Mainland (Daytona Beach, Fla.).

In other Top 25 action, No. 12 Carrollton (Ga.) cruised to a 44-22 victory over Rome (Ga.), led by five-star quarterback Julian Lewis who threw for 352 yards and five touchdowns.
