Drew Rosenhaus, the agent for Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill, condemned the treatment Hill received from Miami-Dade Police before the team’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars as “completely unacceptable.” Rosenhaus said the incident, which saw Hill briefly detained and handcuffed by officers, was unjust and promised that Hill’s legal team would explore potential legal action.
Videos on social media showed Hill on the ground in handcuffs, sparking significant concern. Dolphins defensive end Calais Campbell and Jonnu Smith were also handcuffed while attempting to support Hill.
Miami-Dade Police Director Stephanie V. Daniels announced that an officer involved in the incident has been placed on administrative duties while the situation is reviewed.
Hill, who played in the game and scored an 80-yard touchdown, expressed confusion over the escalation of the incident and questioned how differently the situation might have been handled if he weren’t an NFL player. Despite the ordeal, Hill used his touchdown celebration to humorously reenact his detention.
The NFL is in contact with the Dolphins regarding the matter, with spokesman Brian McCarthy confirming the league’s awareness of the situation.
