Everything’s bigger in Texas, including jackpots! A Mega Millions player won Tuesday’s $800 million jackpot with a ticket purchased at a gas station outside of Houston, ending a streak of over 20 drawings without a winner.
The winning numbers for the massive prize were 1, 2, 16, 24, 66, and the gold Mega Ball 6. The lucky ticket was bought at a Murphy USA gas station on Highway 90A in Sugar Land, Texas, just across from Constellation Field, home to the Sugar Land Space Cowboys, the Houston Astros’ Triple-A affiliate.
This marks the 15th time a Mega Millions jackpot-winning ticket has been sold in Texas, and the first since October 2023 when a $361 million prize was won by Blue Yucca Trust. The gas station will receive a $1 million bonus for selling the winning ticket.
The jackpot winner, who has the option to remain anonymous under Texas law, can choose between receiving $800 million in annual payouts or a one-time cash option of $404.2 million. The odds of winning the Mega Millions jackpot are a staggering 1 in 302,575,350.
In addition to the grand prize, four other players from New York, California, Florida, and Washington State each matched the five white balls, winning $1 million. The New York ticket was sold at a Gulf Express gas station in New Windsor, just north of West Point.
This $800 million jackpot is the third Mega Millions grand prize won in 2024, following a $1.13 billion jackpot in March and a $552 million prize in June. The next drawing will take place on Friday the 13th, with the jackpot resetting to $20 million.
The largest Mega Millions jackpot ever, $1.62 billion, was won in August 2023 in Neptune Beach, Florida, and claimed by Saltines Holdings LLC, which opted for the lump-sum payout of $794.2 million.
