Discount retailer Aldi is ramping up its workforce for the holiday season, with plans to hire more than 13,000 new employees for both store and warehouse positions across the United States.
In addition to expanding its staff, Aldi will continue to open new stores and prepare for the busy holiday shopping period. To attract job seekers, the company is also increasing its pay rates.
Starting wages for Aldi employees will rise to an average of $18 per hour for store positions and $23 per hour for warehouse roles, depending on location and job duties.
Aldi highlighted that it offers significant career advancement opportunities, noting that 70% of its assistant store managers and over 30% of store managers began their careers as store associates.
Employees working more than 30 hours a week will receive benefits including health insurance, paid time off, flexible scheduling, and fully paid parental and caregiver leave.
Interested applicants can apply and interview during National Hiring Week, which concludes on September 15.
The push for holiday hiring is part of a broader trend where grocers, retailers, and logistics companies like UPS and FedEx expand their seasonal workforce to accommodate increased holiday shopping.
NRF CEO Matthew Shay anticipates that consumer spending will remain strong during the holiday season, despite a slower labor market. Shay noted that while employment growth is slowing, low unemployment, ongoing job and wage gains, and lower inflation should support consumer spending. He also mentioned that while lower interest rates will take time to impact the economy, they are expected to stabilize it in the long term.
